On Monday 06/22/20 crews from Ladder 77 and Engine 77 drilled on laddering buildings with ground ladders and our aerial ladder.
Ladder placement is a critical function for situations including but not limited to search and rescue, ventilation, fire attack, and firefighter egress / safety. Units drilled on two very common styles of residental structures within our response district including a two story townhome and a two story colonial.
Our responsibility as a truck company on a fireground is to be proficient in a number of important tasks including throwing ladders in a timely manner. We must continually practice carrying, lifting, and raising ladders as well as conducting appropriate size-ups for ladder placement.
Some of our younger firefighers were able to experience throwing ladders while equipped with SCBA in order to experience the weight of added equipment as they progress through their certification training. Meanwhile operators in training on Ladder 77 were able to train on Ladder placement with the main aerial ladder.
You may notice a number of our volunteers drilling in the summer weather wearing full turnout gear and SCBA. We are committed to training like we conduct ourselves when an actual emergency occurs. This includes the use of all appropriate PPE. Each evolution was followed by aggressive rehydration.
Thank you to our dedicated volunteers for being committed to the best job in the world and putting forth 100% effort in training to protect the communities we serve! |
